Classroom Creative Writing

Follow-up Creative Writing lessons are available for each of Ms. Wagner’s 4 historical non-fiction book presentations:

• It Happened on the Oregon Trail 
• African American Women of the Old West
• It Happened on the Underground Railroad
• Black Cowboys of the Old West

Ms. Wagner is available to conduct individual classroom creative writing lessons following the school presentation. Each lesson is an imagination explosion that leaves students amazed at their creative capabilities. The “young authors” will be lead step by step through the process of formulating ideas, developing the story line, and embellishing the final product. The impact of an Author Visit can be greatly increased through extension activities.

Students will:

• be taught how to “punch out” beginnings and jump right into the action.
• learn how to design the creative layers after the “punch.”
• work chronologically through the story line.
• develop a hair-rising climax.
• cultivate resolution with closure.

Creative Writing lesson length: one hour

Fee: $150 per hour

As a former teacher and reading specialist, Tricia enthusiastically encourages students to become lifelong readers. Her goal is to get students excited about the topic and want to read more about it. Therefore, after each school visit an autographed copy of her book is donated to the school‘s library. Children also have the opportunity to purchase an autographed copy of her book personally dedicated to them.
